Gentle Yoga for Physical Rehabilitation
Many people come to yoga to ward off surgeries, hoping that yoga will relieve their pain and the need for medical intervention. We have seen many students benefit from a Gentle Yoga practice to strengthen their knees, hips and back as they continue their every day activities.
We also work with many students who have gone through surgery to repair a joint that has been damaged through over-use and/or trauma. Working in conjunction with your health-care provider, Gentle Yoga is a beneficial complement to traditional physical therapy.

Gentle Yoga for Common Injuries
Yoga for Rotator Cuff Injuries: The shoulder is the most flexible joint in the body and therefore is susceptible to injury from trauma as well as wear and tear over the years. There is a delicate balance between under-use and over-use of the shoulder during any form of exercise. Gentle Yoga stretches are focused on range of motion and lubrication of this critical joint to encourage healing and support, without over-extension.
Yoga for Knee Injuries: The knee is the joint most commonly injured through trauma. A torn ACL and meniscus are common in athletes and weekend warriors and/or caused through haphazard falls. The knee is used in every step we take, and thus suffers the degradation over the years of worn or absent cartilidge that keeps the knee safe and pain free.
Gentle Yoga exercises work on keeping the supporting structures of the back, leg muscles and ankles strong and flexible in order to keep the knee in alignment and supported.
Yoga for Hip Issues: Hips are the foundation for weight bearing and become more fragile with age. Hip mobility is key to keeping a tall, strong stature. Often times tight hips are the cause of back and lower body pain. Gentle Yoga movements offer simple ways to move safely while maximizing mobility in the hips.
Rotation, strengthening and balancing are critical to keeping this joint healthy and serving you for many years.
